Event Description:
East Grand Rapids, Michigan - October 20, 2017 - The East Grand Rapids High School Drama Department proudly presents its first full length production of the 2017-2018 season, You Can’t Take It With You by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Laugh heartily and sigh deeply at one of the funniest comedies of the ages. Kaufman and Hart’s batty reflection on the madness of sanity in a topsy-turvy world remains as insightful and delightful as when it first graced the stage. Tony, the attractive young son of the unhappily affluent Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the joyous, quirky Sycamore home on the wrong evening. In a house where you do as you like with no questions asked, anything can happen. You won’t forget when the Kirbys meet the Sycamores and all the zany antics that ensue. A novel novelist, devoted dancer, intense ballet master, ex-Grand Duchess (and waitress), amateur printer and musician, free-lance herpetologist, tax evaders, society shirkers and the free thinkers come together in an evening that explodes into hysterical (and all too real) fireworks! The East Grand Rapids High School Drama Department is pleased to announce that we will be introducing a new element to our main stage shows: double casting! Each show will feature two different performers in many of the lead roles this season, in both our fall play and spring musical productions. There will be four performances in each run, and we will delineate between casts by labeling them Blue and Yellow (the pioneer school colors, of course!) Be assured, whether you see the Blue or Yellow cast, you will be seeing a wonderful night of theatre!
